Woodpeckers

Term 6

Woodpeckers have had a fantastic time at Horton Kirby where they had the opportunity to apply their knowledge and learning about rivers to developing their fieldwork skills. They enjoyed measuring the depth and the speed of the River Darent at various points. They made river models using soil, water and lego to investigate river formations, erosion and flooding as well as the factors to consider when planning a settlement close to a river.

This term, children have enjoyed learning about the geographical features of Alderney as well as its unique wildlife! They have been particularly fascinated by puffins and learning about their lifecycle and habitat. They were inspired to apply their learning about these beloved creatures into their art work and poetry.

During their Roots to Food workshop they had the opportunity to practise their food preparation skills making a delicious chicken pesto pasta!

In their art lessons, they used perspective skills to create their own watercolour landscape paintings of the Lake District. In their writing, they wrote their own traditional stories inspired by the stories of Peter Rabbit. We invited Mr.and Mrs. Overton to come and talk to the class about their experiences of The Lake District and their hikes up the mountains!
