As a part of our Design and Technology Curriculum, we had a visit from ‘Roots to Food’. Our lead chef, Darren, completed a workshop with each class across a couple of days.
During the workshops, each class worked in small groups to create Spanish meatballs using a range of fresh ingredients (such as peppers, garlic, tomatoes and oregano). All children took part in the dish, learning valuable chopping, peeling and cooking skills.
Darren showed us how to chop safely, using the claw and bridge techniques, before showing us a safe a simple way to crush garlic. After we had prepared and cooked the ingredients, we were able to taste our cooking, noting the mixture of the different flavours.
We thoroughly enjoyed the visit and can’t wait to practise these skills and techniques at home, using the recipe that Darren kindly shared with us.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
