Kestrels

Term 3

Greek Clay Pots.

During our Topic lessons, Kestrels had the opportunity to learn about Greek culture and how this was reflected through Greek pots. They then had the opportunity to make their own pots, designed for a specific purpose. We used different clay techniques to make our pots, including: coiling, smoothing and scoring. We look forward to revealing the finished products when they are painted!

Dance Workshop

This term, Kestrels were lucky enough to have a performing arts dance teacher come in to deliver a dance workshop. We began with an energetic warm up and then had the opportunity to learn different street dance moves.

Dance Workshop - Street dancing!

P.E. - Gymnastics!

This term, Kestrels have been focusing on the theme 'flight.' We have been discovering different ways to travel, using the 5 different types of jumps. We then focused on creating a sequence in our groups, using the apparatus to travel over and under it, expressing our creativity.

Term 1 and 2

Kestrels have been very busy over the last two terms. We launched ourselves into term 1, studying our topic ‘Around The World’, learning about geographical locations and their physical and human features, we even learnt about extreme weather. During one lesson, Kestrels were tasked with the challenge to become weather reporters based on one type of extreme weather and present it to the class. You can see some of these photos and our tornado art below.

P.E - Dance!

During our P.E. lessons, we threw ourselves into the challenge of building up to a partner dance routine (with a theme of displaying the different stages of volcanic activity). We were very creative and experimented with different starting and ending positions to make it look like we started with a dormant volcano and ended up finishing with a very active, explosive volcano!

Design and Technology Project - Bread making!

A highlight for Kestrels was by far, baking bread for their D.T. project. They were tasked with creating a nutritional bread for a new country. Kestrels experimented with different flavours and tried to re-create some of the breads they had been researching throughout the week.

Term 2 - Royal Observatory Greenwich.

At the start of Term 2, Kestrels were lucky enough to go to the Royal Observatory in Greenwich as part of their 'Space' Topic. The children had a wonderful time: exploring the site, looking into historical astronomers and attending an educational workshop about our Solar System, however, their favourite part by far, was the Planetarium. This trip really brought our 'Space' topic to life and left us all eager to find out more!

The excitement continued in term 2 with the lead up to the Christmas play, rehearsals, Christmas dinner and making Christmas hats and cards. Look at the pictures to see what we’ve been up to this term!

Kestrels Class and all Year 5 Staff wish you all a happy Christmas, a well-deserved break and a Happy New Year!
