Swans

Welcome to Swans 2021 - 2022!

We hope you enjoy looking at our learning on this page.

The children change their story books on a daily basis. Please ensure they bring a water bottle into school every day. Our PE day is Tuesday - please ensure your child comes into school in PE clothes and a school jumper.

Thank you!

Term 6 - Minibeasts!

We have been very busy in our final term as Swans.  We have been learning all about the different minibeasts that we can find around The Gateway.  We looked after caterpillars and then released them when they became butterflies.  As well as all this we have taken part in Sports Day with Key Stage 1 and performed the music we have been learning with Alan to our families!

Football Training

Term 5 - British Animals!

This term we learnt how to look after our pets, talked about the animals we see at school and on our way to school and whether they came out in the day time or are nocturnal. We also looked at the different animals we see on a farm.

Term 4 - Food and Celebrations!

Our topic this term has been 'Food and Celebrations' and we have really enjoyed learning about different traditions and cultures this term.

Pancake Day!

Pancake Day was great!  We read a story about making Pancakes and joined in the Shrove Tuesday assembly with the whole class.  We made and ate our own pancakes and then we wrote instructions on how to make pancakes.

Handa's Surprise - Making fruit salads

After reading the story 'Handa's Surprise' for Book Week we decided to make our own fruit salads.  The children wrote their shopping lists of fruits they would like me to buy and then we talked about how to be safe when using the knives to cut our fruit.  They were very yummy!

As part of our 'Healthy Me' topic for Jigsaw we had a visit from the local dentist who taught us how important it is to look after our teeth.  They showed us how to brush our teeth properly and talked about which foods are good for our teeth and which ones we need to eat less of.  They even gave everyone a little goody bag.  Thank you for visiting us Brent Dental!

We were very busy getting ready for Easter including making cards, making Easter nests and then doing our Easter Egg Hunt.  We worked out the secret message:  Have a cracking Easter!

Term 3 - Traditional Tales!

Our topic has been 'Traditional Tales' and we have been learning all about traditional tales.  We looked at three stories in depth but read lots of other ones too!

We have been very busy with our Traditional Tales topic, do you like the house that we built for the three little pigs?

Retelling stories!

Part of our homework was to retell the story of the Three Little Pigs. Here is one of the videos!

We celebrated Lunar New Year together and read the story of the animal race to understand what Lunar New Year is all about.  We tasted lots of different food including Thai crackers, noodles, egg fried rice, spring rolls, cucumber, spring onions.  We tried some different sauces too and some lychee juice!

Music with Alan

We really enjoy our music with Alan.  We have been learning about percussion and have been learning some new songs too!

Term 2 - Transport and Journeys

This term we have been learning lots of stories and creating story maps for them so that we could use those to help us retell the stories to our friends.

Shape Hunt around the school!

In our first half term our topic is 'All About Me and My Community'.  Swans class have been very excited to become a part of The Gateway community and learning all about the school, Dartford and people who help us in our local area. Our topic is based around the books below.

Term 1 - All about me and my community!

The children have settled in really well to life at The Gateway and enjoy being a part of Swans class.  They have made new friends, got used to new routines and become a part of the whole school community!

The Swans were very excited to have a visit from Kent Police and have a look around the police van.  Some of them were even brave enough to sit in the cell at the back!

Swans were very lucky to have a visit from one of the children's parents who is a Doctor!  She showed us what equipment she has in her Doctor's bag and explained how the different equipment is used.  The children were lucky enough to have a go themselves.  They then played Doctors together afterwards!
