The children change their books on a daily basis. Please ensure they bring a water bottle into school for fruit and drinks time after play time. Our PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday - please ensure your child is dressed in their PE kit with their school jumper on our PE day.

This term our topic has a geography, history and science focus. We will be looking at the different animals that live at the seaside. We will be comparing the similarity and differences of the seaside from from the past compared to today. We will also be using geographical vocabulary to describe the physical features of the seaside.
Our English writing will be linked to our topic: writing stories, letters, factual texts and character descriptions.
Our story books for this term:
For our school trip we went to the Sea Life Centre to learn about different sea life animals and explore the beach.
We had a road safety workshop, learning how to safely cross the road. We have 5 safety rules to follow:

3. Listen
4. Think
5. Hold hands
Frist we went on a 3D hunt around the playground, searching for spheres, cubes, cuboids, cylinders and square-based pyramids. We also sorted 3D shapes into groups and discuss how we have sorted them. (E.g. colours, shapes, faces, height).
In maths we have been practically exploring capacity. We explored how many cups it took to fill up different containers. We had a lot of fun doing this!
This week in maths we started exploring the mass of different objects around the class using balance scales.
This term in computing we have been looking at data. First we started by practically represent data in different ways. Then we have been exploring using a program to make pictograms and different graphs to show our data.
Amazing World of Animals
During term five our focus for this term will be a geography and science focus. We will be learning all about animals from all around the world. We will be locating where animals come from on a world map, identifying if they live in a hot or cold climate and sorting animals in to their animal groups (bird, fish, mammal, reptile and amphibians).
Our English writing will be linked to our topic: writing animal riddles, character descriptions, stories, letters and a poem.
Our art and D&T for this term will also be linked to our topic, we will be creating animal sunset silhouette paintings and a 3D model of a zoo.
During our cooking morning we learnt some key cooking skills. We learnt how to cut vegetables safely using the claw and bridge technique. Then while cooking we also learnt how to stir and steam the meatballs. We all loved learning to cook the Spanish meatball, but we definitely enjoyed eating them the most!
For our TASC project this term we gathered information about zoos, designed our own zoo, created a 3D model of a zoo in small groups, then finally evaluated our 3D models. We wrote what we liked best about our 3D models and how we would improved them. We loved creating our zoos!
Terrific Toys
During term four our focus for this term will be a history and science focus. We will be learning all about toys from over time and also looking at the different materials that the toys were made from. Our skill focus for this topic will be ordering toys on a timeline and comparing toys, looking for similarities and differences.
Our English writing will be linked to our Toys topic: instruction writing, rewriting a story linked to Pinocchio and writing a recount of our toys workshop.
We were given the challenge to work out how to use a bee-bot. We then had 3 challenges to complete: build a bridge out of blocks for the bee-bot to drive through, make the bee-bot move in a circle and make the bee-bot get as close to the wall without crashing into the wall.
Herons were given the freedom of gathering information about puppets, design their own pop-up puppet, create a pop-up puppet and then evaluating their finished pop-up puppet. We thoroughly enjoyed completing this project and looking at each others finished pop-up puppets.
In science this week we have been looking at different types of materials that toys can be made from. We named and identified different materials and grouped materials together.
In maths we have been exploring how to measure the length and height of objects around the classroom using a ruler. We learnt that we can measure the length and height of object in centimetres.
Our Local Area
During term three our focus for this term has been a geography and sciences focus. We will be learning all about our local area of Dartford. We will go for a walk to see what is in our local area, while also learning and identifying the different types of house we can see: flats, terrace house, semi-detached house and detached house. We will also be working on our map skill. First learning what a map is, then we will identify England on a map and as a class we found Dartford on a map of Kent. Our skill focus for this topic was map work. We will leant to add landmarks to a familiar map (Milestone Road) and use simple map symbols.
Our English writing will be linked to Our Local Area: recount of our day at school, rewriting a story linked to Dartford and writing a information leaflet.
This term our topic is a geography focus. As part of the topic we had to understand a sense of place of where we live and begin to make observations about our local area of Dartford. To help with this we went on a walk around a local area. We learnt about the different types of houses that are in Dartford and we observed all the different things in our local area.

In maths this week our focus has been British coins. We have been identifying, naming and understanding the value of the different British coins. We have also been making different amounts using 1p and 2p coins.
In computing this term our focus has been on developing our keyboard and mouse skill through designing a rocket.
As part of Our Local Area topic we have been learning to use a map and identify where we will. First we looked at a world map and identified England on the map. Then we looked at a map of Kent and identified Dartford on a map. We have also been learning to read and identify simple map symbols.
Crazy Climates
During term two our learning will be based around our topic Crazy Climate. Our English focus will based linked to: Autumn Poems, Snow Queen, My Friend Whale and Mog's Christmas. We will write an Autumn Poem, character descriptions, sequenced the stories, looked at different types of characters (good/ evil), created our own characters and write an information text.
Maths Repeated Patterns
Ourselves and Our Pets
This first half term our learning was based around All About Me. We enjoyed reading Giraffes Can’t Dance, Peace at Last, Aliens Love Underpants and Leaf Man. We wrote character descriptions and sequenced stories. In science, we learnt about our body and senses.
We began by learning about all about ourselves and how to stay healthy. We then learnt about our pets. We explored our senses our senses and had lots of fun using our senses for lots of different activities. We learnt all about how to look after a pet and what a pet needs. We made non-fiction books about different pets and how to look after them.
Natural Collages
In art we made natural collages using natural materials such as: grass, leaves, twigs, flower, berries and pine cones.
