Woodpeckers

Viking adventure

During term 1 Woodpeckers Class enjoyed a school trip to the Museum of Kent Life to learn how to be a Viking for the day which involved lots of fun and interesting workshops and demonstrations. The children first learnt how Vikings lived – what they ate and what their homes were like. They learnt how to be Viking raiders and using shields was particularly enjoyed by the children – they showed their great ability when defending themselves from soft balls thrown by the teachers! A Viking workshop wouldn’t be complete without learning all about the Viking longships and they loved re-enacting how the Vikings rowed and put the sails up. Hard work but great fun! Other demonstrations included Viking traders and how to make Viking jewellery using foil… the children were keen to try this in Golden Time the following week! The informative and fun day was finished off with a trip around the museum on the tractor and then an opportunity to meet with all the animals. A really great day was had by all!

A Viking Raid at The Gateway!

Woodpeckers have enjoyed learning about the Vikings. They have particularly enjoyed thinking like archaeologists by examining artefacts and making inferences and conclusions about Viking and Anglo-Saxon ways of life. They have also explored Viking beliefs and developed an understanding of what it might have been like to live in a Viking’s shoes!

Powering Up in Science!

Woodpeckers have been buzzing with excitement in science as they explored electricity. They became safety experts, learning how to use electricity responsibly, before getting hands-on by building their own simple series circuits. The children were especially proud to design and test their own working switches, bringing their learning to life through practical investigation and teamwork.
