Online Safety
At The Gateway, keeping children safe online is a very important part of what we do. Technology plays a big role in children’s lives, both in school and at home, and it offers many exciting opportunities for learning, creativity, and communication. We want our pupils to enjoy these opportunities while also understanding how to use technology safely and responsibly.
We teach children about online safety in an age-appropriate way, helping them to recognise potential risks and make sensible choices when using the internet and digital devices. Our aim is to help every child feel confident, secure, and supported when they are online.
We also recognise the important role parents and carers play in supporting online safety at home. By working together, we can help children develop the knowledge and skills they need to stay safe in today’s digital world.
On this page, you will find helpful information, advice, and resources to support you and your child.
Attached below is the Children's Commissioner's report on online safety: Parenting today can feel overwhelming — especially when childhood looks so different from what we grew up with. There’s no manual, and it can be hard to keep up with the fast-changing digital world your child moves through every day. This guide aims to make those conversations easier and help you support your child with confidence.
To help keep your child safe online, please encourage them to remember:
Always ask permission before using the internet.
Only visit websites and use apps agreed with a parent or carer.
Never share personal information online.
Only talk to people they know in real life.
Use a nickname when playing games.
Tell a trusted adult if anything online makes them feel worried or uncomfortable.
The Gateway is committed to working in partnership with parents and carers to ensure all children learn how to use technology safely and responsibly.

Many websites now include the CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protections Centre) Report Abuse button which can be used to protect young people from individuals who seek to use the online environment to access and exploit young people and children.
There is an app available from National Online Safety to give parents and teachers up-to-date information regarding online safety. For more information, go to this website: https://info.nationalonlinesafety.com/mobile-app
We hope this information proves useful and that by arming ourselves with knowledge we can work together to keep our children safe. If you have any useful links or information please contact the school office.
