Support handwriting at home - parent information  This website offers a wealth of practical guidance for parents, including: 

• Pre-writing patterns to build foundational motor skills. This will be useful to use with your child if they are just starting out on their writing in Swans.

• Letter Writing- this aspect of the website is great for modelling individual letter formation and would be excellent to refer to when completing home learning in KS1. It also includes information on how to form capital letters.

• Joining techniques – which go through how to complete the different letterjoins in different stages. Please note as a school we use a continuous cursive handwriting style.  

• 

• Hand dominance and how to identify if your child is left or right handed and how to support your child’s handwriting development depending on hand preference.  

• 

• Pencil grip – information on how to support your child in using a tripod grip. We know some children find this tricky across the school. Please could you reinforce the correct way to hold the pencil when your child is completing their home learning at home.  

• Sitting posture and paper positioning for effective handwriting 

• Play-based activities to make handwriting fun 

• Strategies for addressing handwriting difficulties – for example how to support your child in letter spacing, pressure and information about specific learning difficulties and handwriting.
