Welcome to Year 6 Eagles Class 2025-2026!
We hope you enjoy looking at our Class Pages and seeing some of the activities we carry out as the year progresses.
Term 1
The Amazing Tale of Ali Pasha.
This has been our ‘class read’ this term. We have learnt a lot about life during the First World War in preparation for our topic on the Second World War next term.
Electrifying Games!
In science, we have learnt about electricity. This has included investigating the brightness of a bulb and the volume of a buzzer in relation to the voltage used in the circuit. We have drawn accurate circuit diagrams using scientific symbols. We learnt about an inspiring scientist named Marie Van Brittan Brown who designed her own home burglar alarm system.
We have also worked in groups on a D&T project which involved designing and creating a prototype for an electrical game. These needed to include a switch and at least two circuits. Our games were well received by Kingfishers Class, who tried them and offered us feedback so that we could evaluate their effectiveness.
Response from The Entertainer, Bluewater.
Eagles Class wrote letters to The Entertainer persuading the store manager to stock their electricity games. We were delighted to receive an emailed response, which was very encouraging and acknowledged all of our hard work. We would like to thank Ashley and his team for taking the time to pay such close attention to our ideas!
Firstly I would like to wish all the Year 6 pupils and Mrs Jandu from Eagles Class Gateway Primary Academy, a very Happy Christmas from all the Entertainer Bluewater Team.
We cannot believe it is another year already and Christmas is here again. I know we are all excited in the Bluewater Store and I have no doubt so are you, not long to wait now before the big day.
It was great to receive your letters again this year. We can see that you have all been hard at work once again trying to design the next best toy and once again you haven’t disappointed. So many great ideas, you are all really so clever and have great imaginations. It’s so important as a child to have the best imaginations, and you have certainly delivered, just like Santa and his elves.
Where do I start?
The design ideas and how you make the games work with the science functions, linking the circuits, really is very impressive, you should all be so proud. You can really tell that you must enjoy your science lessons!!
'Who’s That Marvel?' This is a great game for all the Marvel fans out there, and we do sell Marvel Toys, Spiderman is a favourite character with a lot of the employees in the store, so it was good to see a game related to marvel characters, with a good use of bulbs when you guess the correct Marvel Character.
Peppa Pig is also a toy that we sell here so the 'Peppa Pig’s Perfect Food' game is very interesting to us. We liked the buzzer part of it, a very clever idea. Also healthy eating is very important too, it’s good to eat healthy as well as eating the sweets that we all like – haha.
'Sensational Spongebob World' again Spongebob is a toy that we sell in store, you really all know your favourite Toy Characters very well. The spinning disk part of the game is very impressive – a good detailed game. We had Spongebob visit our store last weekend, he was very popular with the children.
We also liked the learning games such as 'Amazing African Animals' and The Mathematics games. It is very important that not are toys only fun to play with but that they also teach you things. It’s great to be able to learn about the amazing animals of Africa and who doesn’t need an extra bit of maths training hey? I know I do ;-I
Well done to each and everyone of you, so much hard work has gone into these ideas, you should all be so proud. We can see that you have all had a great reaction to the games with a lot of 10/10 scores from research, let’s just say you are a very persuasive class haha. It’s so good to see how much you must enjoy your science lessons, keep up the great work.
Thank you once again for sending these ideas through to us, we will keep them on our notice board at work for us all to get inspiration from.
Everyone at The Entertainer Bluewater once again wishes you all a very Happy Christmas, we hope you all have a fun and enjoyable time with your families.
Happy Christmas
Ashley and The Entertainer Bluewater Team

Homelearning
As part of our home learning, we researched NikolaTesla, conductors and insulators, whether water is a conductor of electricity and the effectiveness of green power – some of us made some fantastic wind turbine models. Many of us have used technology effectively by creating powerpoints and word processing our research. When learning our spellings, we have used Spelling Shed, practised using ‘look/cover/check/write’ and tried many other creative techniques to improve our spelling scores.
English – story writers and poets!
We have begun reading An Eagle in The Snow by Michael Morpurgo. We used this story as inspiration to write a setting description and further developed it into a narrative with a focus on dialogue. We also wrote our own versions of Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poem: An Eagle and created a display of our published poems with illustrations.
P.E – hockey players and gymnasts!
We have enjoyed playing hockey in the sun and learnt how to hold a hockey stick correctly, push and receive the ball, intercept and niggle the ball safely, control the ball and defend and attack in games. In gymnastics, we have learnt how to mirror, match and contrast balances and sequences both on and off apparatus.
Harvest Performance – presentational skills!
We finished this term by performing our whole class poem: The Autumnal Gift to our parents and the rest of the school. We wrote this as a whole class; it was inspired by Kit Wright’s Magic Box poem. We learnt it off-by-heart in order to recite it, were creative in its presentation and performed it with confidence. Everyone worked collaboratively and it was wonderful to end the term together as a class.
These Eagles have read and maintained records in their reading record journals every week this term! We are all very proud of them!
Eagles Class deserve a wonderful half-term break – full of autumnal gifts!
Best wishes, Mrs Jandu J
Term 2
Remembrance Day
Eagles Class began this term by writing their own remembrance poems; they used watercolour paints to complete the presentation of their poetry by painting poppies.
Celebrating Differences
In Jigsaw lessons, computing and in English, we have discussed the similarities and differences between us and worked on celebrating these. We marked Anti-Bullying Week through letter writing between characters. In computing, we worked on online safety and focused on showing kindness both in person and online - equally.
To understand how differences between people can create conflict, yet be a cause for celebration too, we role-played various scenarios and created freeze frames for others to discuss and think about. Can you guess which freeze frame represents which scenario?
At a theme park, some disabled children get a ‘pass’ to the front of the queue for a ride.
A parent/carer criticises their child over how much time they spend scrolling on their mobile phone and tablet.
A child from a different country arrives and is bullied.
A parent/carer won’t allow their child to perform in a school play because of their religion.
At a theme park, the ride attendant won’t let an 11 year-old onto a ride because they are 'just too short'. The ride sign says: suitable for over 7s.
A teenage girl is not allowed to stay out as late as her twin brother.
STOPS Challenge
In maths, we worked collaboratively on solving a very challenging number crossword. The perseverance and resilience required to complete this task was enormous, and Eagles were very supportive of one another when meeting this challenge.
Kent Life
Eagles had a fantastic day at Kent Life immersing themselves in the history of World War Two. We worked with a RAF navigator; learnt how to dig for victory; made rag rugs; learnt about the role of an air raid precaution guard; experienced a WWII home and shop; marched with a home guard; and experienced the life of an evacuee. The tractor ride was a lot of fun too and the winter sunshine was perfect for our day!
Evolution Experts!
In science, we have been exploring the evolution of living things. We investigated the work of Charles Darwin’s research on the evolution of birds’ beaks.
We have learnt about inherited characteristics and learnt behaviours in animals including humans; the adaptation and variation between species of plants; and we have examined fossils. We loved discussing our learning and practising our speaking and listening skills using Explorify and worked on our reasoning skills by thinking deeply about this scenario:
Festive Farming Quest
Part of our school’s science curriculum involves providing our children with experiences which stretch and challenge their thinking. We therefore took the opportunity to participate in a virtual work experience event with the National Farmer’s Union; this involved learning about the role of a camel carer, a vet, a festive pudding apprentice, a turkey farmer and a mistletoe grower. Eagles learnt about careers they wouldn’t normally be introduced to in primary school and many were inspired by the wide diversity of farmers represented in these careers.
Natural History Museum
To further enrich our children’s learning in science, Eagles Class participated in an online workshop with The Natural History Museum. Lots of learning about Charles Darwin, lizards, horses and dogs was explored. They went back 250 million years ago to notice how living things were first identified in the sea, then on land around 400 million years ago and that some living things such as grass were not identified until around 60 million years ago. Having completed their missions, Eagles became experts on the following enquiries:
What is evolution?
Why does evolution happen?
How does evolution happen?
Many Eagles felt inspired to visit or make a return visit to the NHM and we hope they are able to do this during the holidays!
World War Two
Eagles enjoyed working on their TASC activity which involved working with one another on researching various areas of WW2, producing information posters and presenting these to the whole class. They worked very hard on their oracy skills throughout their presentations and discussions.
Christmas celebrations
Design and Technology - Anderson shelters
Continuing our work on WW2 history, Eagles Class researched, designed and created Anderson shelter prototypes surrounded by gardens. We worked hard on considering how to create textured effects and on joining methods including how to use a hot glue gun safely. We also worked on our TASC skills: generating ideas, implementing these and organising ourselves and equipment were particular strengths.
Looking forward to seeing Eagles back in school in 2026! Mrs Jandu ![]()
