Welcome to Swans 2022 - 2023!

We hope you enjoy looking at our learning on this page.

Please ensure your child brings their book bag, reading book and their water bottle into school each day.

Our PE day is Wednesday - please ensure your child comes into school in PE clothes and a school jumper.

Please remember to check Google Classroom regularly for home learning, information on our current topic as well as the phonics we are learning in class.

Thank you,

Mrs Rafter

Term 6 - Garden and Minibeasts

Ralph was very kind and brought in his African land snails for us to meet!  We read a book all about snails so that we would know what to do and then we all had a go at holding and stroking the snails.  We also fed them some lettuce before letting them have a rest before they went home.  Thanks Ralph!

Term 5 - British Animals

This term we will be learning all about British Animals.  We are lucky to have many little visitors to the school grounds.  Now we just need to find them!

We made chicken pesto pasta with Darren and it was delicious!  We learnt about being safe with kitchen equipment and how to hold and cut with the knives properly.

The King's Coronation

Term 4 - Food and Celebrations!

This term we looked at some of the different celebrations of this time of year and the food that they involve.  We had a great time making pancakes, fruit salad and Easter nests.  We have been busy making Mother's Day and Easter cards too!  We also had a visit from the Dentist to remind us that all these foods are very tasty but we also need to keep ourselves healthy.

A Visit from the Dentist

We talked to the Dentist about how important it is to keep our teeth healthy and what foods were good for our teeth and which ones made sugar stick to them.  If you want more information on how to help your child at home with their oral health, have a look at the following website:

https://www.kentcht.nhs.uk/service/dental-services/oral-health-promotion-resources/

We have been very busy cooking this term.  We have been learning about food safety and how important it is to be careful with kitchen utensils.  Of course the best part is always the tasting!

Happy Mother's Day!

Easter Egg Hunt - Working with Herons class!

Term 3 - Traditional Tales

This term we looked at Traditional Tales.  The books above are the ones we looked at in detail but we read lots of other stories from lots of different cultures.  The children will be bringing in their own stories from home too!

Fire Safety Talk

We really enjoyed our Fire Safety Talk and learnt about when we should call 999 and when we shouldn't.  We were very excited to try on the uniform too!

Term 2 - Transport and Journeys

This term we have been learning all about different journeys and types of transport we can use.  We learned about the Dartford Crossing too.  It is important to us because it is on our school badge!  We also brought in photos from home of different journeys we have made on trains, planes and all sorts of other transport!

The Naughty Bus!

We really enjoyed exploring the snow before Christmas!  We collected it in different containers and talked about them being 'full' and 'empty'.  It was great fun watching the snow melt on our hands inside and playing with the artic animal toys in real snow.

Term 1 - All About Me and My Community

These are some of the books that we read together as a class as a part of our first topic in Swans class.

PC Rafter came to visit us at school today to explain how the Police keep us safe and what their job is day-to-day.  He showed us different pieces of equipment and explained what they were used for, and we even go to go in the back of the police van in the jail cell.  We really enjoyed that!

Swans took part in a whole school skipping workshop.  The teacher told us how to hold the skipping rope properly and we then had to try to skip for 2 minutes without stopping!  We found it tricky but persevered!

We were very excited to have a visit from the Doctor.  She showed us her bag that holds all of her medical equipment and demonstrated how the different instruments worked.  We even got to have a turn ourselves!  Afterwards, we really enjoyed play 'Doctors' together.

The Swans were very excited for the Teddy Bears picnic!  We brought in our teddies from home and they met our new friends at school.  In the afternoon our families came and helped us with a teddy bear hunt and then we had a lovely picnic.  It was lots of fun.  Thank you to everyone who came!
