At The Gateway Primary Academy, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment enables all pupils to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. Safeguarding is not taught as a standalone subject; instead, it is woven throughout our curriculum and daily school life to ensure children develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to stay safe and make positive choices.
Our curriculum provides pupils with regular opportunities to learn about healthy relationships, online safety, physical and mental wellbeing, personal responsibility and how to seek help when they need it. Through our PSHE curriculum, assemblies, online safety lessons, anti-bullying work, British Values education and enrichment opportunities, children learn how to recognise risks, respect others and contribute positively to society. Pupils are taught to speak out if they have concerns and know that trusted adults are always available to support them.
We ensure that pupils are well prepared for life in modern Britain and they learn how to stay safe, make informed decisions, celebrate diversity and develop resilience. As a result, children feel safe, are confident to share worries, and develop a strong understanding of how to keep themselves and others safe both in school and beyond.
